Aubrey Ament was born in the Pacific Northwest a few decades ago to a Builder and an Interior Decorator. She spent the better half of her childhood on job sites with her Dad where she can still remember the smell of fresh sawed lumber and lacquer while playing in unfinished houses. Design was always around but wasn’t realized as a passion until freshman year of college when Aubrey attended FIDM in LA for Product Development. She quickly realized that she wanted to be the creator and not just the manufacturer.
After only a few months she applied for and was accepted into the University of Oregon’s new Product Design program where she would spend the next few years tinkering away in the university’s wood shop and ceramics studio. Design jobs were hard to find post graduation, so while Aubrey pursued different design studios she worked as an Office Coordinator at a boutique lumber store in the industrial part of downtown Portland. Though gaining many important skills during her time there, she was anxious to land a real design job.
That following year Aubrey landed her first design position at Nike inc and spent the next 4 1/2 years cobbling up mood boards, coloring shoes and working through the many elements that are a part of being a designer at Nike. At the same time Aubrey ran a small design studio of her own called AMENT where she designed softgoods that were featured at Brooklyn Designs and ICFF this past year.
At Nike she quickly moved up the ranks and was even hand picked to lead color for the new apparel pilot program called Express Lane in New York City. This was a long time dream for Aubrey who has always wanted to make her way to the East Coast. After a year and some change, she made the hard decision to move on from her post at Nike and pursue a different career that is more inline with her interests and big picture goals - to be a designer in the entertainment industry.
Aubrey currently lives in Bed-Stuy with her husband Will, who she collaborates with on their project called GLAM - a design/build studio focused on modern furniture and interiors. They have two silly dogs and like to go to the movies way too often.
